DW2DT: Farewell, Flat House!

Well, tomorrow it all begins.  Or at least that's the plan, fingers crossed.

I am sitting in a dark and windy trailer in the back yard, waiting for Norah to fall asleep so I can run in and take my last shower in the hideous blue tub we gave up cleaning some weeks ago in anticipation of its timely demise...it's windy in here because we don't have a 30A circuit for the AC yet and there are fans going like crazy, and oh, have you heard, the weather was stellar for this holiday weekend... heat wave even....
The 4th of July was on a Thursday, so it make for a nice 4 day weekend for a lot of folks, including us.  As it turned out it allowed us to have something like a normal weekend while still doing the final clear out of the house.  We had some neighbors over for a final flat house Friday night on the deck (only it was Wednesday), we made it to a pool party/cook-out on the 4th, an evening swim at the lake, and had a stellar (ocean) beach day yesterday... in between which we took down blinds, disassembled furniture, hauled stuff in the 95 deg heat out to the camper, cleaned and sorted and organized and stowed things in the basement.  Matt is in the house in the AC finishing things off... I'd say he was snoozing in the cooler temps in there, but at this point, there isn't anywhere to sit, let alone lay down.
It's been an interesting couple of weeks, not quite the archaeological dig that moving can sometimes be, but a trip down memory lane nonetheless.  Long forgotten (already!) wedding albums, christening gowns, odds and ends of baby toys.  Taking down blinds that we first put up when we moved into the house, getting rid of some vestiges of babyhood, like a diaper pail (SEE YA!) and the rocker (bittersweet).  Seeing all of our things, stashed and stowed in only a couple of hundred square feet in the basement.
The trailer seems adequate and inadequate at the same time... when we decided to do this, we thought we'd be complete closer to Canadian Thanksgiving than the American version.  Our bed is a little small, well heck, everything is a little small - it's a camper after all.  I'm only just starting to get my mind around how our routine will need to change, and change again as summer draws to a close.  On the other hand it has all that we need and a change doesn't necessarily need to be bad... we'll visit the library more often, visit friends more often... it will be a challenge to eat well on a regular basis, I think, with limited fridge and kitchen space, but maybe we'll unlock the key to Roddie's eating issues along the way, who knows!
I set out to write this post to document how we, or really, I, was feeling as we launch this project, and the truth is, overall, I feel just fine about it.  There is a HUGE unknown factor here, but Lord knows we've analyzed it to death and it feels good to finally be getting it started.  I don't always deal well with uncertainty, so this is big for me.
Norah's asleep, I am off to toss the last load of laundry in until who knows when!

DW2DT: Sneak Peek!

No progress on the house to report yet, since we don't start demo until next week. However, I do have this sneak peek to offer - the vanity for the master bath arrived over the weekend and has taken up residence in the living room! I found a good deal on the web for one we liked, so I jumped on it immediately, even though it means it will be here roughly... 3 months early.

The new vanity is a whopping 6 feet long, and I only have to share it with Matt. This is going to be a big change from the current ~20" vanity that we all share, sometimes 3 of us at once... have you ever tried to apply eye makeup while sharing a small sink with two small teeth brushers? It ain't easy, I'll tell you that.

Looking forward to seeing it in place!

DW2DT2013: T Minus 10 days!

It's been very stressful around here lately, although I must say, I think we're handling it pretty well... not seamlessly, but pretty well.  The permit was approved last Friday, after a little prompting, and we so the deal with the bank this afternoon.  There is a 3 day waiting period and next week has the 4th of July smack dab in the middle of it, so construction is scheduled to begin the following Monday, July 8th.  HOORAY!

I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared sh*tl%$$ at some level, but I kinda was when we bought the house in the first place, so I think it's in the realm of ok :)  There is a tremendous amount of anticipation built up around this project, as we've been kicking it around almost since we bought the place, and in a very real way for over 3 years.

The camper is all ready, the house is almost buttoned up for "Tim the Builder" and his guys to begin, our bank account will soon take the anticipated hit... in short, it's go time!

Hang on, it's going to be quite the ride!

Norah News: You Oughta Be In Pictures

Getting ready for  DW2DT 2013 to kick off, we've been moving a lot of stuff to the basement, clearing out the cobwebs of our lives over the past 7 years.  Yesterday I came across a picture of Norah that was taken in December 2009, shortly before she turned 2.  I was struct by both how much she's changed and how much she is exactly the same 3.5 years later.. check it out.

Apologies for the photo of photos, but the scanner is packed up already... DW2DT 2013 here we come!
