When Matt and I first told our parents we were getting married, we were at my parents house for Xmas, and Matt's parents were roughly 20 hours away in his hometown - so there was no way to tell them both, in person, within a short amount of time. So we wrote up a fake newspaper article (The Beantown Bugle) and framed it, wrapped it up and sent it with Matt's parents Xmas gifts, and did up another one for my parents... then, we just let the gift opening take it's course... eventually, the news was out!
Then, for the lead up to and at our wedding there were a couple of extra editions.. one with wedding logistics, one to be distributed at the actual wedding (this is another story for another day...) it kinda became our schtick.
After the wedding, the Bugle went silent for about 2 years. After Norah was born I realized I was sending the same update emails over and over to various family members and a work friend/mentor suggested a blog... so I looked into it, nd the Beantown Bugle online edition was born! Just about 5 years and 800 blog posts later, it has been part therapy, part yearbook... I keep it up in part for me, in part for the kids and in part for my family, who are located far from us.
