No work on the house was done today (correction, Matt did strip the last of the siding, uncovering even more ant riddled rotten wood near the chimney) but much progress was made. We were able to agree on not only a front door, but a back door too. We also chose tiles for the foyer downstairs, both bathrooms upstairs AND the vanity for the kids bathroom (although, we almost like what we chose for them better than what we got ourselves, so maybe we'll swap!) It was a long day at the 'Po and Lowe's with a lot of online follow up, but I think we're set! Next up is bath fixtures and lighting... I think we'll get rid of the kids for a few hours to look after that as we really pushed our luck today. On the up side, they both fell asleep in the car on the way home and had hour naps! Trailer life is catching up with them!
On Friday the guys got the roof built, up to the sheathing - man, the house looks TALL! Could be the giant green tarp that's covering it at the moment - we were expecting a bit thunderstorm yesterday that never arrived, so Tim and Russ, the framer, were here on Saturday morning making sure the place was buttoned up tight. I assume they will all be a lot happier this week now that the humidity and heat has broken a bit.
The kids and I took advantage of a neighbor's hospitality (I should say one of many neighbors - so many have offered us various types of assistance!) M's husband is traveling and she's on her own with the two kids, so it was mutually beneficial for us all - the kids played, she made us yummy pancakes and I did a load of towels - the rest of the laundry has been line-dried, which honestly has been fine so far. The only problem is that it was so hot this past week that everything was baked dry, so it was stiff and a bit wrinkly!
This week, we expect to see the roof on, windows going in, and possibly moves on the porch/deck and interior framing...exciting times!
2 weeks down, 14 to go
